The AZ-900 Exam: What It Covers and How to Prepare
Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals is the entry-level Azure certification. It has no prerequisites and assumes no hands-on experience — it tests whether you can talk about cloud computing and Azure accurately.

What the exam measures
Microsoft publishes the objectives as three weighted areas. This site groups its 75 practice questions into four sections that map onto them:
- Describe cloud concepts (25–30%) — the shared responsibility model, cloud service models, cloud economics and the benefits of cloud computing. → 11 questions
- Describe Azure architecture and services (35–40%) — regions, availability zones, resource groups, compute, networking, storage and databases. → 28 questions and 21 on identity and security
- Describe Azure management and governance (30–35%) — cost management, service level agreements, governance controls and the monitoring tools. → 15 questions
A study plan that works
- Start with vocabulary, not services. Most people fail on concept questions, not on service trivia. Be certain about CapEx vs OpEx, scalability vs elasticity, authentication vs authorization, and the shared responsibility model before memorising service names.
- Use the free Azure account. Half an hour clicking through the portal — creating a resource group, deploying a VM, finding the pricing calculator — makes the exam's scenario questions concrete.
- Practise in short sets. Ten questions with the explanations read carefully beats fifty skimmed. Read the reasoning for the ones you guessed correctly too.
- Watch the multi-answer questions. When the exam asks for three answers it means exactly three, and there is no partial credit.
